After my athletic career ended at ferris state university, I wanted to stay in shape. Although I had a busy work schedule I made time to workout, I did the typical things back and bi’s, chest and triceps, mixed some squats in and occasionally ran. I felt good when I worked out but I was missing the team aspect I was used to.
I had never heard about crossfit when my now wife told me about it, I still didn't know what it was until I saw the crossfit games on ESPN. I stumbled into my first “box” in 2014 and never looked back. I took my level 1 in 2015 and it was that weekend that my dream of owning a gym started! fast forward to January 2019 and True Grit Athletics became a reality and with it Glen Rose Crossfit!
My passion is helping people become the best versions of them self with lifestyle and exercise!

As a teen and young adult, I struggled with obesity and yo-yo dieting. I played team sports, but nothing serious. I wanted to be fit, but would start something and quickly quit, returning to old habits. I was 21 when I got pregnant with my son and 23 years old with my daughter. At 24, severely anxious, clinically depressed, and over 250 pounds I knew I had to commit to making a change to be there for my kids and to set an example for them of what a healthy and happy lifestyle looks like.
At first, I joined a global gym and cleaned up my diet. After a few years started taking various classes. More than just a physical change, I started to notice a positive change in my mental state. The anxiety and depression faded. At 31, realizing how much fitness had impacted me over the years I sought ISSA Personal Training Certification and began coaching group fitness classes. At the same time, I had started watching CrossFit videos on YouTube and wondered….
In 2019, knowing that I was ready for more than general exercise and bootcamp-style group classes, I wanted to challenge myself to try CrossFit. Incredibly, the Glen Rose CrossFit (GRCF/True Girt) affiliate box had just opened in my hometown of Glen Rose. I immediately signed on as a member, training as often as I could. All the while, I fell in love with the sport and the community it provides. In early 2020, I earned my Level 1 CrossFit Certification. People often say “…and I never looked back”, but I do look back to recall my journey and to remind myself of how far I’ve come. The decision to try CrossFit and immerse myself as a member and now as a trainer have significantly elevated my physical fitness and mental health. I can also say that achieved my goal; my kids really do see my as strong and motivated, and they’re happy to see their mom enjoy life.
What do I bring to the GRCF/True Grit box? Let me start with what I don’t bring. I’m not physically gifted, I’m not graceful, I don’t learn quickly, and I don’t have an athletic or gymnastics background. Rather I’m fairly uncoordinated, have a weak concept of my own proprioception, and struggle to get that mind-muscle connection. That said, it’s these “weaknesses” that have become my strengths in the box…I’m tenacious, persistent, disciplined, coachable, and have unwavering passion and excitement for progress. Combined, these characteristics make me a me an empathic coach that can effectively communicate with any member, regardless of their history. I’m forever indebted to the values, principles, and life skills that CrossFit provides me.

I’ve always enjoyed staying active and playing sports but as I got older I missed the competitiveness and camaraderie that came along with it. I started CrossFit in 2019 just 2 months after having my second child. My main goal at that time was to lose the baby weight but once I hit that goal my mindset shifted from wanting to lose weight to getting stronger and increasing my performance in the gym.
For years I struggled with body image issues and bad eating habits but thankfully, CrossFit redefined the way I look at health and fitness. I’m the most comfortable I’ve ever been in my own skin and I no longer care about the number on the scale or what size my pants are. I think it’s important that we set the example for younger females that food is fuel and it’s ok to have muscle, and most importantly teach them that fit looks different on everybody!
In July of 2022 I earned my CrossFit level 1 certificate. I am so happy to be apart of Glen Rose CrossFit and I love being able to witness the power of CrossFit through this new lens. I’m excited to continue my journey at GRCF while also helping others succeed in theirs.

I joined Glen Rose Crossfit as a member in 2019 and was instantly hooked, finding that I enjoy both the competitive and community aspects of the workouts.
I earned my Crossfit level 1 certificate in May of 2019 and although my main focus is the Crossfit Kids program that takes place during the summer season, I love encouraging the adult members to reach for and obtain their fitness goals.
I bring almost 20 years of coaching experience in gymnastics, strength and conditioning, cheer and diving to True Grit Athletics!
